CASE STUDY :  Western Water BoMScout

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has been given a mandate to develop and maintain an integrated national water information system.  To this end over 200 water related industries Australia wide are now required, under Section 126 of the Commonwealth Water Act 2007, to provide data that falls within ten specific categories including flows, groundwater levels, reservoir storage, water quality, water use, water entitlements and water trades.

CASE STUDY :  Nambour WWTP

This project included replacement of the existing PLC/SCADA system with SCX, Schneider’s Quantum Hot redundant PLC’s and Wago Ethernet I/O. Our scope was to design, program and install the system without downtime.

CASE STUDY : Northern Midlands Council

This project includes Citect SCADA and Siemens redundant PLC’s at a WTP along with a WWTP and approximately 30 integrated Miri radio telemetry monitored pumpstations, and reservoirs. Our scope included design, supply, installation and commissioning of the Telemetry System and interface to the existing SCADA/PLC System, which we now maintain and fully support.

CASE STUDY : Water Pump Station Upgrades

WA Cromarty & Co has been involved in several water pump station upgrades throughout Victoria.  The ongoing drought is forcing Water Boards to look further afield for their water supplies.  Our partnership approach to these projects ensures that the continuation of supply is assured to the customers whilst the upgrade is underway.

In conjunction with Citect Professional Services we undertook both SCADA and PLC programming along with associated documentation & commissioning for a number of pipeline projects.

CASE STUDY : Australian Bulk Minerals

Port Latta

This project included the design, supply, program and installation of a Redundant Citect SCADA, and 5 x Siemens S7400 PLC’s for 5 furnaces along with common equipment. The system was installed over 4 years and we still have an active role in upgrades, and on-going support.

Savage River

This project was a follow on from the Port Latta project where we replaced the Foxboro DCS and panel Instrumentation with Citect and Siemens S7400. The project involved converting all the existing wiring from the operator control panels for instrumentation and drives to the new system. A number of subsequent upgrades have been successfully carried out, which have included replacement/integration of Siemens S5 PLCs and incorporation of large ABB drives on Profibus.

CASE STUDY : Imerys – China

Though our successful involvement with a similar plant in Australia we were given the task of design, supply and installation, commissioning of the Control system and Instrumentation for two new Imerys plants in China. All PLC panels, SCADA and field Instruments were pre-commissioned in our Launceston workshops before despatch to China.

CASE STUDY : Tasmanian Advanced Minerals

This plant produces fine silica sands for the electronic industry. Our scope included complete electrical design, supply and installation of the Citect SCADA, Siemens PLC, ABB drives and field Instruments and MCC along with commissioning, documentation and training of operators.

CASE STUDY :Orica

W.A. Cromarty & Co. was commissioned to undertake a Functional Requirements Specification (FRS) to replace an outdated Product Allocation and Tracking system. This included accepting instructions from SAP and integration with plant floor systems. Once the FRS was written we were awarded the tender for the implementation of the project, and we have subsequently been involved in a number of upgrades.

CASE STUDY :Nyrstar (Zinifex)

This project included design and implementation of Citect’s AMPLA (MES solution) to the Casting machines at the Smelter to identify and improve downtime. We undertook the FRS and then its implementation with outstanding results. The company found many improvements and cost savings which were duly implemented.

CASE STUDY :Carter Holt Harvey

This green field plant was built to produce MDF particle board. Though John Holland Boilers we undertook all the Wonderware SCADA and PLC5 works for the wood fired boiler. We were also later commissioned to design, develop and implement a product tracking system to track the progress of board throughout the manufacturing process though to final warehousing.

CASE STUDY :Tasmanian Alkaloids

We have had a long association with this company from early installation of a Texas Tistar system to more recently Citect/Siemens S7 and Emerson Delta V installations. We have permanent staff allocated through service contracts and support all Control System Integration as well as required FDA documentation.

CASE STUDY :Roaring 40’s

W.A Cromarty & Co provides support for day to day operations which include fault diagnosis and rectification, addition and deletion of points within the SCADA system, upgrading of the Citect SCADA and Foxboro SCD5200 RTU’s, coordination of SCADA information transfer between Roaring 40’s and customers/partners.
